Most of the members of the Vanda species originated in tropical Asia. Orchids of the Vanda genre are generally categorized based on the shape of their heaves into three broad groups, the Strap Leaf, the Terete and Semi Terete. 

In Thailand, Vandas are grown in lath houses and on the patios where they receive ample warmth and shade. In the wild, they are found on trees where they receive full morning sun and partial shade from the hot afternoon.
